Asus MB169B+ Driver, Price, and Reviews– Everybody knows that using two screens on your computer makes you more productive. ASUS changed all that with a new MB168B +, 15.6-inch USB Monitor with a 1920 x 1080 display. Chassis, MB168B + is a must-have accessory for a business traveler or anyone who needs to be productive away from home.
Asus MB169B+ Design
Click to enlarge 14.9 x 9.26 x 0.26 inches and only 1.6 lbs., ASUS MB168B + is significantly thinner and lighter than AOC E1659FWU (14.8 x 9.2 x 0.9 inch, 2.4 lbs.).
When in case, ASUS MB168B + weighs 2.6 lbs. In our tests, the casing fits easily into one of our big pocket laptop bags, leaving room for a smaller notebook or tablet.
ASUS MB168B + looks very similar to the premium product, with metallic colored plastic back reminiscent of the petals on ASUS ‘ Zenbook line ultrabooks.
Asus MB169B+ Setup
Click for EnlargeASUS including CD-ROM with EZlink and Multiframe software, which helps you manage your windows, but for those who do not have Optical Drive, the utility is available at support.asus.com. Like most Portable USB monitors, MB168B + is powered by the DisplayLink chip, so EZlink only installs either the MAC or Windows DisplayLink driver for you. However, we prefer to download the latest version of the driver directly from DisplayLink.com. If you are already using a DisplayLink powered Dock or another monitor on your computer, you may already have the software you need to be installed.
Once you have the DisplayLink software, all you need to do is attach the monitor to the USB port on your computer and it should turn on and display the second desktop for you. Like all secondary monitors, you can adjust their position, resolution, and other settings in Windows by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting screen resolution or MAC by visiting the View section of the System Preferences menu. In Windows 7, our desktop wallpaper does not fill the entire screen if the primary monitor is a lower resolution than MB168B +, although the background color is not.
The slim 26-inch micro-USB 3.0-to-USB ASUS bundle Cable with MB168B + is the biggest drawback of the monitor. In our tests, we found the cable too short, and the 3.0 micro USB plug emerged from the monitor too easily. Even worse, a number of computers that we attach to–include a MacBook air with USB 3.0 port and an older Acer Timeline 1810T with only USB 2.0–do not emit enough juice to monitor power through a single port. Fortunately, when we use the USB Y cable to connect it to the Dual Port on this system, the monitor works fine.
When we use a different 3.0 USB cable, it goes into the USB port on the monitor much safer. If you are going to buy ASUS MB168B +, we highly recommend you buy a 3.0 Y USB cable, which you can buy on a site like NewEgg for as little as $10.
Asus MB169B+ Mounting
Click to enlarge the case you understand how to fold the case, the installation of ASUS MB168B + USB Monitor is quite easy. You have to fold the flap on the front side of the canvas case, which then forms a small 2-inch back to lean monitor against. There are two Velcro strips on the inside of the case that you should use to hold the front of the monitor in place. Position the screen against the bottom strip and it sits at an angle of almost 90 degrees. Place it against the top strip and lean back about 15 degrees, which is the position we like. Once you put the monitor against the strips, you must fold down the upper flap of the case and secure against Velcro.
Using Velcro strips and the fabric back looks like a thin way to mount the monitor, but it feels quite safe in our tests. However, we would not recommend placing monitors on unstable surfaces or too much jostle. We were also able to position the monitors in portrait mode on the mountain, but it seemed very heavy and we were worried that it might eventually fall.
Asus MB169B+ Image quality
Click to enlarge Asus MB168B + provides wide angle-of-view, bright images, and lots of real estate screens. When we watch The video 1080p “The Avengers, ” The image remains true from up to 60 degrees to the left or right, and colors like Iron Man’s Armor Red and Captain America’s blue costume appear accurate, though not too rich. Since the monitor is using a matte rather than a glossy panel, we don’t see any reflections until we get closer to 90 degrees.
At 163 Lux on our light meter, MB168B + is much brighter than the 103-Lux ThinkVision LT1421 but fell a few short points from the 177-Lux AOC E1659FWU.
While the 1920 x 1080 is a big resolution to watch full HD movies, it’s even better for a productivity job. Using Excel 2013 at 100 percent zoom, we can load 24 columns and 41 lines of content on the MB168B + screen. In Word 2013 at 100 percent zoom, ASUS monitors display two side-by-side pages with 49 lines of text respectively. For comparison, 1366 x 768 ThinkVision LT1421 shows only 16 columns and 25 rows in Excel and one page with 27 lines of text in Word.
Asus MB169B+ Performance
ASUS MB168B + USB Monitor provided a smooth, sharp image no matter what we threw at it. Whether we’re editing in Excel or playing a 1080p video with high frame rates, this gesture is smooth and seamless on PC. On a MacBook Air running OS X Mountain Lion, we have no problem playing 1080p video or surfing the web.
